The Blue Jay Spirit Shop is CLOSED!
Dear Mercy Families,
Our Lady of Mercy Athletics are an essential element of the education of students because they foster the development of character, life skills, sportsmanship and teamwork. Our athletic programs strive to develop a positive self-image and encourage physical activity as a part of a healthy lifestyle. Educational athletics serve as a source of school pride and maintain positive relationships between schools and communities. While schools recognize the pride in winning, it does not supersede the educational goals of athletics.
Our school athletic program will participate the CSAA (Catholic School Athletic Association) against other diocesan schools. The Varsity division is offered for 6th Grade through 8th Grade in Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, and Volleyball and is a competitive division. The CSAA allows both boys and girls who don't make the Varsity team in 6th through 8th Grade to play in the Junior Varsity division which is a developmental, less competitive environment. [Note: Tackle Football, another CSAA program, offers only competitive play for 4th, 5th/6th, and 7th/8th grades] 3rd-5th graders can participate in the CSAA's Developmental League in Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, and Volleyball. In addition, Our Lady of Mercy offers Cross Country, Track, Soccer, and Swimming.
For our younger students, K through 2nd Grade, we offer Developmental sports such as Basketball and T-Ball/Coach's Pitch. In the developmental program, our students will be introduced to the sports world, some of which for the very first time. We will take this opportunity to teach the children all of the basic fundamentals of the sport in a non-competitive environment. Our developmental teams will only play against other Mercy developmental teams, but there will be no score kept. Parent volunteer coaches are always needed to assist in these programs, and we welcome all parents to take part in this developmental time of our kids.
Please feel free to contact me at any time, with any questions. We look forward to seeing all of you at the games.
Go Jays!
